Diving into Jack Skarda's season
Swim at O’Dea
Threw out the past 3 months, the O’Dea swim season has been in full swing. They had 6 meets in there regular season and had a team record of 3-3. However, this is not a great example of how good the O’Dea swim team is. Jack Skarda, a junior here at O’Dea is a great swimmer. This season, in all of the regular season meets, Skarda won every one he participated in.
Swimming is a very individual sport and the only team element of it is the scoring. Jack is one of the best swimmers in all of the metro league and is a force every time he gets in the pool. Skarda is hoping to make a deep state run this year.
Throughout the back half of the season the team really started to improve and ramp up their level as a whole. The team started off the season 0-2 and finished out the season winning 4 of their last 6 meets to get to a even record. “We didn’t get off to a very hot start this year… we ended the season strong and swimming well,” said skarda about the season.
At the invite, that decides the seeding for the state meet, Skarda had an exceptional day getting first in one of his events and 3rd in another. Throughout the season, there have been lots of guys on the swim team that have been able to improve their craft a lot. The team has come a long way from where they started at the beginning of the season and where they are now. “It’s been a good season for the younger guys on the team too. They have all improved a lot from where they were at the beginning of the season and where they are now,” said Skarda.
Jack ended up sweeping Metros, winning every event he competed in. Skarda has a bigger goal than just winning meets though this season. Skarda hopes to break the school’s records. He has been in peak condition all season and thinks he has what it takes to break it. “I hope to break some school records, and get some PR’s, “ said Skarda.
If Skarta keeps swimming the way he has all season, he will certainly have a great performance in the state competitions. The competition will take place this Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center.
