Letter To My Younger Self
To 13-year-old Jeffrey who really doesn’t think ahead and is so locked into sports that you lose focus of other important aspects of your life, just take a second to breathe and enjoy being a kid with little responsibility. Don’t stress over the little things, life is not perfect and there’s going to be tough battles that you’re going to have to get through. These battles are going to make you stronger; they’re going to build you to be a greater person then you will be if you didn’t go through these things. You’ll learn how God can help guide you through tough things as well, he’ll always be there for you no matter how tough the situation is, he’s there to guide and comfort you as long as your reach out to him, never forget that.
Baseball is going to have many ups and downs, you’re going to find that failure is inevitable and you’re not always going to be the top guy but you must always have the mentality that you can get there, You’re going to have to work very hard outside of the field to see results on the field, natural talent goes away once you get to the high school level. You’re not going to know much about recruiting at all and you need to gain knowledge now, through this knowledge this is where you’ll realize how tough it is to get recruited in baseball but also how many opportunities you can give yourself that many don’t take advantage of. In baseball if you want to get something you must go get it. Patience is key, however once you’re opportunity comes you have to take it.
With your parents’ divorce, you’ll realize that people can be two faced and not be 100% honest with you. You must learn to not listen to everything everyone says, you need to make decisions that are best for yourself so that you can be in the best position to succeed. Things won’t always be easy and don’t always dwell on things because if you continue to always look back on past mistakes you won’t make the best decisions for yourself.
Going to O’Dea is going to be an experience that is definitely going to have many trials and tribulations however it will make you a greater person in the end. O’Dea is going to give you a realistic idea of what to expect in college and you will learn that hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.
