Fighting Irish Bounce Back In A Win Against Roosevelt
The O’Dea Fighting Irish beat the Roosevelt Roughriders in a 38-0 win this past Friday at Memorial Stadium. This solidifies a season record of 5-1 after a close loss to the Eastside Catholic Crusaders the week before at Eastside Catholic. Players who stood out as top performers include junior running back Christian Winn, sophomore running back Luther Hill, and junior running back Jason Brown.
The Irish seemed like a new team since the week prior. Notably making consistent yardage in the run game throughout the contest, and also holding the Roughriders back to no points.
“We came out with fire and wanted it more. We wanted to play for ourselves.” Said junior linemen Joseph Meats.
The Irish came out fighting with the pure aggression they were looking for. In the opening drive they solidified an easy touchdown in a goal line run from Jason Brown.
The dominant performance also meant getting new faces into the game. The starters stopped playing halfway into the 2nd quarter. Sophomore running back Luther Hill stepped in the game and immediately made an impact, scoring his first varsity touchdown and expanding the Irish’s lead even more.
The Irish also showed their season long consistency in the kicking and punting game. Junior punter Kellen Shaffer has been showing up big in recent games. Not only against Roosevelt but also in a loss against Eastside Catholic he still showed poise and dominance.
Next week, the Irish face the Ballard Beavers on Friday October 14th at 7:00 P.M. at West Seattle Stadium where they hope to keep their state championship season alive.
