From Lancer To Irish For Charlie Foster

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

SEATTLE: Charlie Foster is a junior lacrosse and football player for the O’Dea Fighting Irish, Foster transferred in for the second semester from Kennedy Catholic in Burien, Washington. Foster is literally a huge transfer for the Irish standing at an imposing 6’6” and weighing in at 210 lbs.

Foster plays both football and lacrosse, in Lacrosse he’s an LSM (Long stick Midfielder), Faceoff and Defensive Middle for the Irish as he looks to help the team defend the state title they took home last spring. The Irish have a tough match at the start of the year facing off against the talented Eastlake Wolves Saturday, March 11 at Eastlake High School.

I asked Foster what the difference is between the dominant O’Dea Fighting Irish Lacrosse program and the program at Kennedy Catholic, Foster said,

“At Kennedy, things were more relaxed, here things are more based on perfection, and I like it that way.”

Clearly Foster is someone who wants to get the job done as best as he can on the field, he wants to continue the tradition of winning state championships for the Irish lacrosse program. Foster is sure to bring great intensity as well as being a great team player to achieve the ultimate goal: another state championship for the Irish lacrosse program.

I also asked Foster personally and socially what it was like to leave Kennedy,

Foster said, “Leaving Kennedy wasn’t easy, I made a lot of friends and memories over the past 3 years, and leaving all that I had done just wasn’t easy but I did it.”

Foster’s words about Kennedy really goes to show the attraction that O’Dea brings to kids both academically and in athletics. Foster transferred in the middle of his junior year of high school which is certainly hard for any kid, but he’s here to do one thing: win. In a way Foster has already contributed to great success at O’Dea, Foster competed O’Dea Mentor Group House Basketball championship where he represented Mr. Balinbin’s mentor group, Foster had an outstanding performance where he had 5 of the 11 total points scored in the semi-final game and 5 of 15 in the championship game along with playing great defense and grabbing tons of rebounds. I asked Foster what it was like to instantly have to perform on a fairly big stage just a few weeks after transferring,

“It felt awesome to just be welcomed on the roster even though I skipped all of the games to get there considering my first game was the semifinals, regardless it was still really cool to win.”

Clearly Foster is just a natural competitor, he’s a guy who no matter what circumstance is going to compete and he’s going to make the best effort to win. It’s not easy stepping into a school and having to perform but Foster was just able to get the job done when in counted.

My last question for Foster was about his plans for the upcoming fall,

“I’m definitely planning on playing football this fall.”

Foster is committed, he’s ready to compete and he’s going to have great opportunities to compete for state championships in both lacrosse and football, a true talent both on the field and as a teammate.
