Hamilton Wisen, and the greater man sports make him.
Why do people play sports, is it the competitiveness, the bonding? Or could it be the lessons that we get.
Hamilton Wisen has been playing sports since he could walk. Sports has been a bog art of him, and his family's lives for as long as he can remember. But why? It all started with his two older brothers. They both attended O’Dea and played tennis for all 4 years. His brothers love for Tennis is what made Wisen switch from playing lacrosse his first 2 years at the school, to start playing tennis.
Wisen thinks that the greatest thing he gets out of sorts is all the life lessons that it teaches him. Being on a sports team means lots of things. It means that you must be committed to spending your time practicing. It means learning to work as a team to obtain a common goal. But most of all, Wisen things that sports shaped him into a better person.
“Sports have been a huge part in my life for a long time now… the greatest thing that sports has done for me is it teaches me life lessons that don’t just apply to the sport,” said Hamilton Wisen on the impact of sports.
At O’Dea sports are the main way that we strengthen are bond and brother hood. It can be hard to connect with people at odea because everyone is so spread out over the great Seattle area. This can make it hard to meet people and treat strong friendships. However, playing sports together is one of the best ways to create friendships and bonds with people.
When Wisen first came to O’Dea, he did not know a lot of people at the school. There was nobody in his neighborhood that went to O’Dea. However, the saving grace for Wisen was that his mother had signed him up for freshman football. This meant that even before he steps foot at O’Dea, he had already been able to connect with some of his brothers.
“At first when I came here it was hard for me because I didn’t really know a lot of people here and nobody lives near me… mom sighed me up for freshman football though and that really helped me be able to meet some people before I even got to school.” said Wisen
The impact that sorts has had on Wisen is all the lessons that it has taught him. Without sports, Wisen would have struggled to make meaningful dep connections with his brothers at the school. The best thing about sports at odea is how they connect everybody together under the same common goal. This created a great environment for Wisen to become a better athlete, but more importantly a better person.
