Irish Golf Season Comes to a Close

Updated: Nov 1, 2022

SEATTLE - This past Monday, October 24th, the O’Dea Fighting Irish golf team placed 6th in their district match, not qualifying the squad for state. Senior Brady Foster and sophomore Paddy Mahar each shot the best for the Irish with each shooting a 77 on day two of districts.

Although the Irish did not have the performance they wanted, some individuals did have big performances. This included Foster and Mahar, who qualified as individuals to compete in the state tournament this upcoming spring. They will represent O’Dea where they hope to dominate.

Blanchet came in first place in the match. With senior Max Herendeen leading the way for the Bears. He shot a 66 to come into first place in districts.

Roosevelt came in second in the match. Senior Will Sires shot a solid 73 to lead the Roosevelt Rough Riders into second place, also qualifying for the state tournament.

The Irish did have a succesful season though, going 8-1 through the regular season. But, unfortunately, their performance at the district match does not give them the chance to continue their run.

“Although out performance was not where we wanted it to be. We rode hard but our horse got tired. I am excited for the future of our program, especially in sophomore Paddy Mahar who will be joining me in state as an individual," Foster shares.

One bad match will not discourage the Irish though, as they have a strong young core of golfers who will show up in years to come.
