Jack Nishimoto’s Multi-Sport Athletic Career has had an Unexpected Turn Out Entering his Senior Year
SEATTLE- Sports has been a very special hobby for Jack Nishimoto. Nishimoto has played a total of four different sports and has had a lot of different experiences while playing.
Nishimoto has played baseball, tennis, football, and wrestling. At the time baseball was his main sport before he came to O’Dea, so he had an idea of a sport he wanted to play. Although he had a plan a lot can change in a year.
Nishimoto joined the freshman football team, and he enjoyed his time on the team when the season ended, he was ready for baseball. Unfortunately due to Covid-19, he wasn’t able to play baseball because it had been shut down.
As time passed throughout quarantine, Nishimoto wanted to try something new. Entering his junior year, he quit football and decided to join wrestling. Nishimoto didn’t know much about wrestling before he joined but when he did, he was hooked.
“I’ve never played a sport as physical as wrestling,” said Nishimoto.
Nishimoto became successful when he wrestled and was able to take 1st place in of his tournaments. Sadly, during one of his matches, he would have a devasting shoulder injury which took him out for the season and ended his career.
He still wanted to play a sport in the spring despite his injury so he decided to join tennis for a new experience and find possibly another new opportunity to take.
“I joined tennis because I wanted a break from baseball and it was something that I could enjoy a lot,” says Nishimoto.
When his tennis season ended in his junior year Nishimoto enjoyed the sport a lot and now plans to enter his senior year leading the team for his final year at O’Dea.
Since doing multiple sports at O’Dea Nishimoto was able to have many different experiences and be able to enjoy the full O’Dea experience.
“Every sport has a different vibe, football was more work, and other workouts you can do outside of the field, baseball I couldn’t get a firm grip on because of Covid, tennis was more relaxed yet made me want to compete even more, and lastly wrestling would make me work as hard as I could all the way to the end,” said Nishimoto.
