Jack Nishimoto Takes on a New Leadership Role to lead the Tennis Team to Success
SEATTLE- Senior Jack Nishimoto played tennis for three years during high school and learned how to be an elite leader and player from past alumni. Nishimoto had prepared to become a leader when the time came and now, he will be leading the tennis team this upcoming season.
Nishimoto has played a variety of sports throughout his life and he has always been determined to be the best at any sport he plays. Nishimoto plays his part on the team by playing in the boy’s singles and doubles for his team which has improved his tennis skills.
Nishimoto will take on a new opportunity because this will be the first team he will lead in his sports career, and he plans to lead the team at a high standard.
“The new guys will be guided by our new tennis coach, Coach Ethan, he will help the new guys get the fundamentals down,” says Nishimoto.
The team record last year was 2-5 and the tennis team didn’t have as many people as they wanted. Last year the tennis team had 11 players and now there has been a massive jump in the number of players with now 19 on the team. The new players can lead to new opportunities and bring in new talent to the team.
“I think the new players this year might be able to create a legacy, I say that because I feel like they take it as seriously as the people on varsity,” said Nishimoto.
A primary factor in tennis matches is how many players a tennis team has, and Nishimoto is very excited about how many people join the tennis team.
“I don’t know what the season will entail being perfectly honest, there are a lot of new guys on varsity this year and I don’t know the people on the other teams, so this year is a toss-up,” said Nishimoto.
With a larger group this year O’Dea’s tennis program continues to expand and has the potential to become a top team in the Metro league with new standout players.
“I think Lorenzo Neri will stand out and I think the seniors who have been on the team before will stand out because we all claim to have played over the summer and gotten better,” said Nishimoto.
The Irish will take on West Seattle for the first match on March 13th.
