Jack Nishimoto, the man, the myth, the legend
SEATTLE - For senior tennis player, Jack Nishimoto, exploring new things has always been something he's enjoyed. Coming out for tennis this year as a first year player, he didn't know what to expect.
"Just be ready" is what Nishimoto kept telling himself through tryouts. Nishimoto knew that to make an impact on this team, he had to work hard and be consistent.
"Being a first year player it's a little hard getting the hang of it, but I just trusted the process and tried to get better everyday," said Nishimoto
But with the help from teammates like junior Lorenzo Neri, who has solidified himself as a vet on this team, Nishimoto was able to pick his brain a bit.
"Zo helped me a lot with small details that I would get wrong during practice, and I think that led to me getting more confidence," commented Nishimoto.
"We would play quick matches at the end of practice, and I would get destroyed," added Nishimoto, "but I would quickly learn how to play against the best."
Nishimoto didn't have success at first though, going into a drought of loss after loss, but he knew that it wouldn't be easy.
"I knew I had to work a lot harder," mentioned Nishimoto.
Before he knew it, Nishimoto won his first match and caught fire.
He was starting to get the hang of it and guys at practice began to respect his grind because they saw where he started.
Although, Nishimoto fell short when it came to Metros, he didn't lose faith or hope. In fact, he was proud of how far he came and the lessons he learned.
"Yeah I was sad that my sports career has come to an end, but overall I learned a lot and built a lot of new relationships that I will cherish forever," remarked Nishimoto.
His teammates relentlessly talked about how Jack Nishimoto was a leader through hard work and setting a good example for the younger players, and that shows the true character of him.
