Letter To My Younger Self

To 14-year-old Jeffrey who’s one of the most indecisive people ever with decisions to make regarding the next 4 years of your life, just keep moving forward because these stressful times will be over quickly, and soon, you’ll find a way to never be anxious over any situation. I know it’s hard to adjust to everything with your parents just divorcing and the fact that days after you choose to attend O’Dea High School you’re already doing camps and workouts to get your name out there for when you start in the fall of 2019. But try to focus on the fact that you have great opportunities ahead, and never dwell on things in the past because you can’t do anything about that anymore.

In terms of Baseball, you’re going to find that failure is a part of the game and you’re not always going to be the best player on the field, but you must believe that you are the best to succeed. You’re going to have to work extra hard, especially in the weight room to really see the results on the field. To make it to the Varsity level at O’Dea you’re going to need to make sure you get in the weight room after school while still working on your craft outside of school, and the Sweets don’t end up working out at all, this is where you’ll realize how tough it is to get recruited in baseball.

With your parent's divorce, you’ll realize that there are a lot of people, especially adults who will tell you things that you want to hear instead of the truth. You’ll feel like you don’t know if you can trust your parents’ advice or anyone’s honestly, you just try to make decisions for yourself without enough guidance. You won't be perfect in the decisions you make and you will get really frustrated but don’t be, it’s out of your control. My best advice that you need to take for everything in the next 3 years is don’t worry about the things in the past, and focus on what you can do to improve your future.

Going to O’Dea will be a good decision for you, you’ll meet new people, and you’ll learn many different skills you’ll need after High School. You’re going to have to work hard but you’ll see great academic success only if you put your best foot forward. But always remember, yesterday’s history, tomorrow’s a mystery but the present is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.
