Little Man but Lots of Speed
Junior track runner Andrew Tran stands at 5’5 143lbs and runs for the O’Dea Fighting Irish Track and Field team. He is a team leader and supporter of the team. Everyone counts on Tran to get the job done because he is one of the fastest on the team.
So far there has been 2 track meets. Tran participates in the 100 meters, and the 200 meters. His best time from the 2 meets were 10.30 in the 200 meters. His speed and explosiveness got him this time as well as 2nd place.
He enjoys what he does when it comes to running track. His favorite parts are going to practices and meets with the boys and being able to have freedom to run his races.
“I love being able to hangout with my boys after school and being a part of a team is what makes me happy.”
Tran takes this track stuff seriously, no matter what he always finds time to train. On his free time, he goes on runs around his neighborhood, does hill sprints to work on explosiveness, and does resistance band running to work on his speed.
“A lot goes into becoming a track runner, working on exploding through your first steps and being able to finish with max speed.”
There are many challenges that come with running track such as injuries, weather, etc. He does not care what is in his way, he takes it straight up and powers through adversity. People best known Tran as someone who gets through adversity better than others.
“I don’t care what’s in my way, I will do what I can the best I can at all times.”
Tran believes his talents can take him all the way to state. He has some tough competition he will have to go through but you can do anything you put your mind to. His times are good so far, but can get better times at these meets coming up.
Speaking of meets coming, Thursday 4/20 there is a track meet at Eastside Catholic High School. The team and Tran have a good chance of coming out on top this Thursday if they put there skills to use.
