SEATTLE- The O’Dea Fighting Irish basketball team once again reached the state playoffs after their huge district playoff win against Rainier Beach High School by the score of 74-58. It was a big win for the Irish against Beach because they beat the Irish in the Metro semifinals.
With the season coming to its latter stages, the intensity and the quality of basketball will get tougher, but the Irish have what it takes to get the job done.
Everyone has played a part in the team’s successes especially star junior point guard Noel Davis. Davis has been huge for the team having the 2nd most points per game (9.5) and 2nd most assists per game (3.2).
“Playing with all my brothers is just something that is special, and being able to be around them just makes my mood even better,” said Davis
The team now is more locked in because any loss will mean that their season's over so it’s important that the team is well prepared for all the obstacles they will face. It will be important that all the players are mentally and physically ready for some of the top schools that they might face.
“I’ve learned that whoever wants it more will get the end result so we will have to be at our best to get to our main goal.”
With the two main rivals of the Irish, Garfield and Eastside Catholic, both in the running for the District and State Playoffs they must be extra sharp to stop both of them.
“To be successful in the playoffs I believe we just need to keep playing together like we’ve been doing already and stay as one.”
With the Irish building some great momentum, who will stop the Irish from getting the ultimate prize.
