Noel Davis, the sharpshooting phenom

Sharpshooter Noel Davis has been tearing it up all season and it is clear to see why.

O’Dea basketball just finished a great performance down in San Diego this past week at the Torrey Pines Classic. Davis was a big part of the team’s success, and he has been all season.

Davis this season has been playing at a very high level making spectacular plays all over the court. In a rivalry game against cross-town rival Seattle Prep, Davis peppered the net all night, raining down threes. Davis could simply not miss as he made not one, not two, but three buzzer beaters threw out the night. Everything he shot seemed to go in nothing would stop him.

“Yeah, I don’t know what was happening I just kept shooting and they kept going in,” said Davis

In O’Dea’s last game versus San Diego powerhouse Torrey Pines, Davis had an incredible game. He had a staggering six three pointers and finished with 25 points. Davis has been lighting it up all winter from three but has seemed to really been able to find himself in the past few weeks.

In their trip done to San Diego, the team had a record of 3-1 in their games coming home as consolation bracket champions. It was a great showing for the team as they won 73-55 against a strong Coronado team. Noel had a great tournament have two 20 points plus games.

All of this success does not happen overnight, it comes from hard work. If you go in for 6 AM workout, you will often see Davis alongside the Clark brothers (Miles and Malcom) shooting around. This is a testament to their work ethic and drive to get better. The team also has late practices and must stay until they can have the court. This means that kids like Davis that live down south can end up having exceptionally long days at school.

The reason for Davis’s exceptional rise skill this year is due to working on his game all summer. He was in the gym working on his game every day and when he wasn’t doing that, he was in the gym lifting weights. He also played a lot more AAU games this year as he was working with several teams all summer.

“I really worked on my game this summer more then I usually do or even thought I would do.”

Luckily for the Irish, their first game back from theirtrip is against a struggling Bishop Blanchet team. The team will hopefully be able to rest some key players and give them a break before their massive game against Garfield. That game against Garfield will certainly be a great game between two of the best schools in Seattle. Every time O’Dea plays Garfield it brings a great, competitive game.

“That game against Garfield is going to be a good one… I excited to play some boys I know.”

Davis is looking to keep playing at the high level that he is at right now and the only way to do that Is to keep working hard.

Davis’s rise to stardom is due to is work this off season and hopefully he will be able to keep his great form for the rest of the season if the Irish look to make a deep run in the playoffs.
