O’Dea baseball looks to turn its season around
After a rough start to the season, the Irish made great strides this week going 1-1. With a big win against Roosevelt and a hard fought battle against Seattle Prep.
The Irish beat the Rough Riders 7-1 on Monday night by with one of their best offensive performances of the year.
The Irish scored 7 runs on 10 hits and 5 walks. Davis Downer, Jed Stange, and Andrew Strathy lead the way with 2 hits apiece.
Patrick Galvin started on the mound for the Irish going 4.2 innings allowing 2 hits and giving up 1 unearned run. Jeffrey Woods game in relief and closed out the game. The Irish pitchers totaled 10 strikeouts and only 3 walks.
"I feel great on the mound and am excited to see how the season turns out," Senior pitcher Jeff Woods said.
This was a big game for the Irish getting their second win of the year and Galvin getting the win on the mound.
The Irish’s first game against Prep was a close one with O’Dea coming back from a 5-run deficit in the second inning.
This was a very close game where prep ended up winning by 1 by a score of 8-7.
The Irish offense came alive with them collecting 9 hits and 4 walks.
The offense was led by outfielder Downer, Washington State commit. He went 3-3 with 2 doubles and 1 walk and 1 single collecting 1 RBI and scoring twice.
Isiah Nolan also had a big game going 2-4 with a double and a single scoring 2 runs and collecting 2 RBIs.
Also sophomore second basemen Davon Abaga went 2-3 with a double and single scoring 1 run.
Quincey Brown started off on the mound and struggled a little giving up 8 and 7 earned runs on 7 hits and 4 walks with 4 strikeouts.
Basil Hendrix closed out the game going 3.1 innings giving up only 1 hit and one K.
The Irish’s second game was rained out against Prep.
They look to have another strong week with their bats. They totaled 19 hits this week and hope to exceed that.
Davis downer went 5-6 this week and looks to keep it going.
They have a big game against Lincoln on Monday and look to keep the bats going.
