O'Dea Basketball Hopes to Make a Splash

Updated: Dec 12, 2022

In this upcoming 2022-2023 season, the O’Dea basketball team hopes to have another terrific year.

The team is already off to a great start with two wins over two great teams. In the team’s first match up of the year, they took on timberline. The team put out a great performance winning an impressive 78-53 game.

The teams next game was against perennial Metro League powerhouse Rainer Beach. Beach year in year out puts out a strong team , but the Irish where ready. O’Dea brought the energy to Rainer Beach as the student section was bringing it all game long. O’Dea ended up winning a close game with a score of 78-73.

The team has some high expectations as they will have a very strong squad this year lead by senior point guard Mason Williams. They have high hopes in making a deep playoff run this year down in the Tacoma dome. Williams had 20 points last game in a great showing of his strengths

This year, the team wants to change things up. In the past few years, the team thinks that they have gotten a little bit lax. They want to bring a higher level of energy this year. In some games last year, the team may have not played hard and coasted to a victory. They want to change this. instead of letting up in games this year, they want to bring the energy all game long and not let it up.

“We want to apply pressure all game… we don’t want to let up on teams ever this year." junior point guard BJ Shannon said.

If the team wants to play with high energy all game long, they will need help from their bench. The team has a great supporting cast of players this year that will be able to help in key moments. Freshman, Brian Webster hopes to have a great break out season as a freshman. He has played with guys on the team for several years so hopefully he will have great success this high school season.

Shannon is a junior point guard that is hopping to break out this year on the court. He is yet to play this year due to not having enough practices under his belt. but once he does, he will certainly break out into some playing time this year.

Another junior who has been tearing it up this year is junior Noel Davis. Davis so far this season has been lights out shooting. He finds ways to get open for a jump shot with ease. He has been so good so far this year that he has gained the nickname "The Curry of Metros."

There next two games should be easier for them as they will face struggling teams Roosevelt and west Seattle. Both teams are yet to win a game this year. After that game, they will face acrost town rivels Seattle Prep. This game will be a very anticipated game with huge bragging rights on the line. Year in year out both teams bring everything they have for that game so it will be a great early season prevue of the team’s abilities. The game will be Tuesday, 12/13 at O’Dea.

Hopefully the Fighting Irish will have a great rest of their season and have a great showing in their next few games. If they keep playing at the level that they are now, and at the level that they expect of themselves, they will have a great season.
