O’Dea Falls to Chief Sealth 11-8 in Metro Opener

SEATTLE - "Adversity is preparation for greatness."
Many teams in sports have overcome adversity early in the season and the Irish baseball team is looking to be on that list. On a cold and blistery night in Bannerwood Park, one of the craziest games took place on the diamond. The Irish started senior Teige Halligan who was making his first varsity start on the mound against the Chief Sealth Seahawks. Unfortunately for Halligan, the game got away quickly. Halligan went one-third of an inning with five walks given up along with 3 earned runs.
“It overall just wasn’t my night. I was just missing the zone on some of my pitches and they ended up adding up,” Halligan said.
With the game starting out pretty rough, the offense was able to do something it hasn’t been able to do all season which was putting out consistent hits. The bats for the Irish stormed back and took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the 6th inning. The scoring was lead by junior Andy Strathy who went 3-5 with 2 RBI’s and junior Luke Klooster who went 3-5 with 3 RBI’s. Ironically, these two guys were placed in the bottom of the lineup but nonetheless, they were able to deliver.
Unfortunately, the Irish couldn’t close it out, letting the Seahawks storm back in the top of the 7th and take it into extra innings. In the 9th the Seahawks scored 3 runs and the Irish offense wasn’t able to come back.
The Irish will take on #2 ranked West Seattle on Friday at 7PM. Roll Irish!
