SEATTLE - The O'Dea Fighting Irish football team came out victorious in their first game of the season by a score of 21-13 against the Bothell Cougars at Memorial Stadium.
On Friday the second of September, O'Dea battled with the Cougars and won after being behind 0-13 in the first half. The defense of the Irish held as the offense in the first half wasn’t. Eventually, the offense pulled through during the second half and the Cougars were silent.
"I think we were able to manage the comeback because we had great leadership and brotherhood. We started out slow but didn't give up and kept fighting until the end," senior tight end Tucker Ashcraft said.
In the beginning of the first half the Irish struggled after Bothell started off with the momentum. The Irish defense held its ground and the Bothell offense managed to get 13 points through two touchdowns and a missed extra point. At the end of the first quarter it seemed as if Bothell ran out steam trying to power through the Irish defense because in the second quarter there didn’t seem to be the same aggression nor energy as in the first quarter.
During the second half, Bothell could not get any footing as the Irish burst through. The momentum shifted and stayed with the Irish throughout the second half. Bothell did not score another point during the rest of the game.
After the big win, the Irish hope to get another victory over the Blanchet Bears next Friday.
