SEATTLE- The O’Dea Fighting Irish were defeated 3-0 by the Lincoln Lynx Thursday, March 30 at Interbay Stadium. After an own goal in the third minute of the game, the Irish had no answer for Lynx senior midfielder Anders Beckton who had the other two goals. The Irish struggled all game to put together any offense as the Lynx maintained a strong tempo. Senior goalkeeper Ben Sollom shared thoughts on the impact the loss has on the team,

Sollom said, “Not how we wanted to start our official first game of the Metro League season, but the team is thankful that this game happened because we are quickly learning from our mistakes and we look forward to taking on Seattle Prep next week!”

Sollom is clearly looking at the loss as a positive and as a learning lesson for the team going forward. As a goalkeeper, it can be tough and frustrating when you give up multiple goals even if it isn’t your fault. Sollom has the experience and as a senior, he knows that great frustration can't happen over one loss, you have to be able to move on and prepare for the next game without dwelling on a previous game. Sollom expressed how he felt about the performance of the team excluding the final result,

Sollom said, “We started off with a pretty stagnant first half. There were some highlights in the second half as we were able to hold our own against one of the top teams in the state.”

Sollom certainly seems to have been somewhat pleased with his team for finding some fight despite being down in the second half. Competitiveness even when the team's down is something that has been consistent for the Irish this season, especially in the Garfield game Monday, March 24, in which the Irish came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2. Junior CDM (Center Defensive Midfielder) Jack Huson shared his thoughts on the loss and how it will affect the team going forward,

Huson said, “I believe we will come back even stronger than we were going into this game despite the gut-wrenching loss on Thursday. We will prove once again to Prep and everyone else in Metro on Monday that we deserve to be at the top.”

Clearly the Irish are determined to perform well after this loss, they will take on the Seattle Prep Panthers on Monday, April 3.
