O’Dea Fighting Irish Soccer Stay Hot With A 3-1 Victory

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

SEATTLE- The O’Dea Fighting Irish soccer team defeated the Nathan Hale Raiders Thursday, March 16, at Interbay Stadium. The Irish were led in scoring by senior striker Favian Martinez (Seattle University Commit) who had two goals, while senior August Pepper had the other goal. With the win, the Irish improve to 3-0-1 with the tie coming against a talented Lakeside Lions team. The Irish have been scoring at least if 2 goals per game and they look poised to make a deep run into the Metro League and eventually state playoffs. Senior Center Midfielder Connor Lofy had some words on the team’s performance throughout the game,

Lofy said, “The team was able to fight through adversity and come back to win the game after being down 0-1 for a majority of the game. We’re going to maintain that adversity throughout the rest of the year and bring home a metro championship.”

Clearly the Irish were able to perform despite going through a period of adversity, that’s something that builds a winning culture, fighting through whatever adversity the team is facing. Three unanswered goals for the Irish shows resilience and intensity both on the offensive and defensive end of the ball, they’re hungry they want to achieve what they came so close to achieving in the spring of 2022, a state championship. I asked senior goalkeeper Ben Sollom for his thoughts on the vibe of the team after the game,

Sollom said, “Look out for O'Dea soccer this year as we once again make our claim as one of the best teams in the state.”

Sollom along with the rest of the Irish know what happened last year and are clearly determined. The Irish have one more non-league game against the Redmond Mustangs Friday, March 24, from then on the Irish will face all Metro League teams starting off with the Garfield Bulldogs Tuesday, March 28, not to get too far ahead but the Irish will get a rematch against the Lakeside Lions Thursday, April 20th.
