O’Dea Floods Rainier Beach at Lumen, Irish Win 22-0

Updated: Jan 20, 2023

SEATTLE- Friday’s game at Lumen Field was action packed with both dominant ground attacks and hard-nosed defense, but O’Dea dominated Rainier Beach, 22-0. With the likes of the perfect defense and explosive offense, the Irish push their record to 3-0.

The famous saying, “Defense wins championships,” showed true Friday night at Lumen with the total dominance of the Irish.

With defensive captain’s senior, linebacker AJ “Honeyman” Hall, junior cornerback Kyan McDonald, and senior middle-linebacker Brendan Murphy leading the way they showed how good O’Dea’s defense continues its standard of greatness. “We wanted to keep them out of our end zone, and it came out that way,” Murphy said.

Now the offense: junior running-back, Jayson Brown has the first score of the game with a typical all-out-effort touchdown in the late second quarter. As well as scoring a two-point conversion after an offsides penalty against Beach. Luke D'Anna, junior quarterback, met senior tight-end Tucker Ashcraft on a vertical for a 70-yard touchdown.

Then with the final score of the game junior quarterback Antone Araujo subbed in for D'Anna and ran a QB sneak at the goal line to push the Irish's lead, 22-0. “There wasn’t a player of the game today, it was an all-out team effort,” Murphy stated.

With this big win at Lumen, the Irish keep their undefeated record of 3-0 and an upcoming rivalry game against Seattle Prep at West Seattle Stadium September 30th. Seattle Prep is 0-2 in league games to Rainier Beach and Garfield but did win against Mercer Island in their first regular season game.

This may be a walk-through game for the Irish, or the Panthers may upset, whose to decide till Friday night.
