O’Dea Track Team’s Strive For Greatness at Districts
SEATTLE – It’s that time of the year with the school year winding down, the push for state in track is only ramping up. Overall, the Irish have had a very long and successful track season with multiple players qualifying for districts. The four guys who’ve qualified are all seniors, Tucker Ashcraft, Anthony Hall, Chris St. Louis, and Sean Ellison.
St. Louis and Hall are trying to make a push for the state championships in shotput, an event they have really progressed in their senior year. \
“I’d say I’ve been really confident in myself and my ability to go out and perform which has been the biggest thing. Obviously, I feel like I’ve gotten better performance wise since last year but my confidence keeps me on my game,” Hall said.
Aside from Hall and St. Louis, these arent the only guys involved in throwing events for the Fighting Irish. The senior Ashcraft is the Irish’s only participant for the discus throw. His work ethic has been by far the clear cut reason he is in the position he’s in right now.
“He truly works his ass off every single day in practice. I’m with the shot putters all the time in practice so Tucker and I are always close, and I see him give 110% effort non-stop,” senior Brendan Murphy said.
Ellison on the other hand is the one participant not apart of a throwing event. He’ll be participating in the tournament’s long jump event which is regarded as one of the most popular and well-sought after events in the entire sport.
If you combine all of these factors into one the Irish’s track season has been nothing short of a huge success. The work ethic these guys have put is absolutely deserving of a shot at the state championship coming up next week.
The districts championships/tournaments for all events is at Renton Memorial on Wednesday May 17, 2023. Go out and support the team there and at the state championships at Mt. Tahoma High School next week. Roll Irish!
