OD'ea Basketball travels to San Diego for the Tory Pines classic.
Over December 26th-31st the O’Dea men’s basketball team played a tournament in San Diego called the Tory Pines classic. The tournament involved teams from across the country. Including teams with amazing basketball stars like Mikey Williams. The players began there trip ready to leave on a plane to San Diego but with weather conditions being extremely icy, the flight was cancelled. But luckily, they found a way.
They ended up taking a 23-hour bus ride all the way from Seattle to San Diego. They also had to travel with Auburn high school at the front of the bus. They ended up dropping off Auburn high school in LA because that's where their tournament was held. “The buss ride felt like it was never ending” Odea player BJ Shannon says. As soon as the O’Dea basketball team got to their hotel, they had less than 20 minutes to drop their stuff off and head to the tournament.
As soon as they got there, they quickly warmed up and headed to the first game. Point guard BJ Shannon says, “Within the first 10 minutes of warm up we were locked in”. They played the first game and dominated the other team. The team played incredibly and had a couple shining players like Noel Davis, miles Goodman, and Mason Williams.
The O'Dea basketball team continued to play great, winning another two games. Then when the fourth game came, they were just barely defeated. Although they were defeated, they still kept their heads high and as BJ Shannon says “Helped them grow together as brothers”. Odea would end up winning 3 games total and the conciliation championship.
Luckily this time they were able to take a flight back home which was very quick compared to the insanely long bus ride they took. But overall the Odea basketball team did amazing and is a trip they will never forget as brothers and teammates.
