SEATTLE- Peter Pauly has quickly turned himself into one of the best dual sport athletes not only in the sophomore class but all of O’Dea.
The 5’8, 150-pound wrestler and strong safety on the football team, had an excellent freshman year winning metros and regionals in his weight class for wrestling and being called up to the varsity football team as well.
As a sophomore Pauly saw meaningful time on the defensive side of the football for an O’Dea team that finished #3 in the state but unfortunately, had his wrestling season cut short due to an injury.
Pauly stated, “In my semifinal match at metros I was winning and doing just fine but midway through the kid stood up, and as he was doing that my shoulder popped tearing my labrum. My recovery has been limited because I don't know what exactly is wrong. And if I need surgery, I plan on doing PT as soon as possible.”
With Pauly having a minor setback right now, the two-sport stud had set his sights on next year.
“My goals this summer are to gain as much weight as possible for football while trying to get back to wrestling and doing camps and major tournaments”, says Pauly.
With Pauly being regarded as one of the hardest-working men on the team, there should be no worry about his preparation for the next season.
Senior wide receiver Mo Cunningham stated, “We lifted all summer together at 7 am workouts and I was one of the guys who witnessed firsthand how hard he worked and I believe people saw that on Friday nights as well.”
With all this hard work, Pauly has goals for himself as well as the teams he is a part of as well.
“My goals for football next year are to start again, be a part of a state championship team, and do my part. My goals for wrestling are to place in the top 5 at the state tournament and lead the team to a metro championship”, says Pauly.
With two seasons left of wrestling and football, Pauly has already looked into his potential as a high-level collegiate athlete.
“I haven't thought of college a lot yet but any offer for both sports would be amazing, especially from a division one or division two school”, Says Pauly.
Although he may only stand at 5’8 and 150 pounds, Pauly continues to prove his size won't hold him back from being a high-level athlete, and with two years left of him in the O’Dea sports programs, the Irish are in good hands.
