Peter Pauly is set to make a state championship run

Updated: Dec 12, 2022

With winter sports starting up and fall sports coming to a close, fresh from football, sophomore wrestler Peter Pauly is hungry for a ring and will do anything to get him and his team in that position.

Pauly, a starter on the physical Irish football team, states that "wrestling and football complement each other greatly."

He's not wrong. Not being the biggest guy on the field, Pauly relies a good amount on his wrestling technique to tackle in football, and proven this season, he was one of the best on the defensive side of the ball.

"My goals by the end of this season are to take top 5 at state and get as many of my teammates to state as possible, I also want to earn the invite to Nationals. I expect my team to win Metros and get everyone through to regionals."

With this goal in sight, it is certainly obtainable. The O'Dea wrestling team features a lot of young talent, and Pauly is looking to take a leadership role as a sophomore!

"I expect us to grow and get better, but that comes with consistently working hard."

Clearly he's matured a lot in the off-season and holds his teammates accountable, but he also sets the bar super high for himself.

Pauly's current rankings in the state for his weight class is sitting at 10th, but the fans and as well as himself expect to be higher up by the end of the season. Being ranked that high amongst many other wrestlers in the state, Pauly doesn't think that matters, it's just all about the work that he puts in.

Pauly is looking forward to the season as well as his first match and the fans cannot wait to see how he performs.
