Playing a leadership role on a young but promising swim team, Davis is ready for the challenge
For junior swimmer Davis LeClercq now being a leader on the swim team, with little to no senior help, but the outlook for him and team is a promising one.
"Being one of the older and more experienced guys on the team, I try my best to help everyone with technique tips within whatever skill set they may be."
LeClercq thinks that practicing hard and keeping the intensity up during practice is key to making consistent improvements throughout the season. "I feel like I can do a good job keeping people's heads up during tough practices and encourage everyone to give it their all," LeClercq said.
With only 3 meets under their belt, the Irish currently stand at 1-2, despite key players being absent, as one of the meets was during Junior Nationals. They aren't backing down though, the team is ready to face the adversity and come out victorious.
The playoff outlook is still their sights, "Despite our small size, this years team can definitely make a good run through the post-season meets. We have several guys who can be serious state contenders, and record breakers," stated LeClercq
Due to missing practices from being occupied with other sports, LeClercq is still looking to make his presence known throughout the state as a serious underdog.
When asked about key players LeClercq was adamant about Jack Skarda leaving a legendary legacy at O'Dea. "Jack Skarda is definitely a standout. Expect to see him on the state podium this year and being a huge help on all relays wherever we need him," Leclercq conversed.
Davis is fresh off of a successful junior football season with seeing the field plenty of times, as well as, making big-time plays.
The leadership shown from him to his football team as a contributor, he seems to think this will translate to swimming when handling situations under pressure.
"If my team needs me to step in for relays, or I need to sub in, I will always be there because being reliable to my teammates is important to me, and it is important to setting a good example."
The Irish fans are excited to see how far this year's swim team can go, but they can only go as far as Davis LeClercq takes them,
