Quincey Brown’s Life Between Basketball and Baseball
Quincey Brown, a 2-sport athlete at O’Dea High School. He plays varsity Basketball and Baseball but wants to excel and put his skills more towards baseball. Brown plays big parts in the basektball program and the baseball program when it comes to learning and leading.
As in the varsity basketball team Brown has 2 distinct roles he plays. When he swings down to JV as a varsity player, it is his job to lead the team and help everyone with what they need to be at that varsity level, “On JV I’m a leader, but on varsity I’m there to learn.” Once Brown is playing up on varsity his role changes from leader to listener He learns and listens from the older guys to make him better and get to varsity caliber level.
The time he spends through basketball and baseball can be challenging for many people, but Brown is doing an excellent job using his time wisely when needed. Once basketball season is around, he is working on his basketball skills to be prepared to get in the games and make something happen. But transitioning into baseball is hard for many people but for Brown he works on his baseball skills through basketball season so he can be well prepared for the upcoming baseball season.
Once basketball season is over, Brown hits baseball hard. From the ending of basketball season until the end of summer, Brown goes hard travelling, training, and going to big tournaments with his team to get his name out there, “Summer baseball is when I’m going hard to get my name out.”
Brown has a big future ahead of him, he could take his skills to whichever sport he loves more and go play at the next level. He already is leaning towards baseball just because he fell in love with the sport at an early age. He hopes to make it to the collegiate level for baseball and hopefully past if possible. He is a tough kid who will do what it takes to get somewhere he wants to be no matter what, “If I keep putting the work in day after day my dreams of playing after high school will happen.”
Brown has some big goals for the current basketball season, such as getting a state championship win with his team. He hopes to make this season special for the seniors being there last year playing high school basketball. Also, for this upcoming baseball season, Brown’s biggest goal Is to first win the metro title, and then head to state and get the state championship win. He honestly believes in both sports teams to accomplish these goals he has set for himself and the team, “I feel like this year in both sports our team is strong enough to do that we just have to collaborate with each other and help each other succeed.”
