Road to championship

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

With the O’Dea basketball team season coming to an end soon, the Fighting Irish men’s basketball fight to survive. About 2 weeks ago the 3rd O’Dea Fighting Irish played against the 4th ranked Rainier Beach.

The game was highly anticipated and lived up to its hype with it being back and forth with both teams playing excellently. But it seemed like in the last quarter something hit O'Dea.

O’Dea started to slow down and weren’t getting rebounds. Rainier Beach was getting lots of easy points and to a point O'Dea did start to come back but just didn’t have enough to finish.

Rainier would end up winning with the final score was 49-48, which was also pretty low scoring for a game but still was a very good game.

BJ Shannon, O’Dea junior point guard said “The game felt like we were playing both slow and fast paste. But at the end of the day, I think it showed that we were just the smallest bit too slow.”

O’Dea plays Garfield next for a spot in the playoffs. If they win this game they would be set for a spot in the playoffs, if not they would have to win two more games.

Mason Williams, Fighting Irish senior point guard would play an amazing game with 30 points. But O’Dea would eventually lose the game 71-55. Although this meant they wouldn’t have a guaranteed spot they weren’t going to give up.

Shannon said, “It was a defeating loss but just meant that as a team we really needed to pull it together”. The O’Dea Fighting Irish would win the next two games one against Nathan Hale 93-60 and would play rainier beach again and beat them 74-58.

Tonight, the Irish will play Bellevue high school at 5 pm and hopefully will secure the win.
