Two Sport Standout Brady Foster Looks to Continue Hot Streak on the Green and the Mound

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

SEATTLE- Gonzaga baseball commit Brady Foster, a two-sport standout at O’Dea in golf and baseball has been a key piece on both teams since he's been at O’Dea and looks to continue that in his senior season.

Now as a senior on the Irish golf team, Foster has put himself in a great position to lead this talented group back to state. But this time, win it all.

“I have embraced the role as a leader on the golf team by setting an example at practice. I make sure to stay on task, and to hold others accountable if they lose focus. I believe that with everyone putting their best foot forward, our team can make a run at state,” says Foster on his leadership as a senior.

Golf Coach Tyler McLaughlin added onto what Foster's leadership role has been, “Brady plays a vital leadership role on our team. He is one of our captains and the most experienced golfer.”

Foster has committed and will be attending the Gonzaga University as a pitcher for the baseball team as he has dominated not only during the Irish baseball season, but in summer baseball as well.

Playing golf, in addition to baseball, for the Bulldogs has crossed Foster’s mind once or twice. Foster has played nearly his whole life with his dad for the most part and it is a possibility for the baseball standout.

“I have been playing golf since I was a toddler. Although I have had some golf lessons here and there, my dad is the one who really taught me. Without him, my muscle memory for my swing wouldn’t nearly be as sharp as it is today," says Foster.

As for playing at the division one level along with baseball, Foster stated, “It depends. I have a really great opportunity ahead of me with baseball, making it hard to pass up. It would really be determined by the specific situation.”

Foster has been off to a hot start as he has hit par in 2/3 matches the Irish have played in so far. This seems to only be carrying his momentum into this season that Foster finished on last season.

“Brady’s game really improved over his junior year. He was consistently our top scorer. He then had a breakthrough performance at state, shooting under the par and finishing fifth overall. I believe Brady is carrying that momentum into this season and has become a better ball striker and a more consistent putter. This has helped him post top scored early in this year’s season, and if he continues to work hard, I think he will routinely shoot under par in our remaining matches,” McLaughlin stated.

Mclaughlin also went onto say, “He also is currently our top golfer on the team, so he sets high standards and expectations for the rest of our team.”

Foster looks to continue on his hot streak into the rest of the golf season and into the state playoffs as well as doing the same with the talented and experienced baseball team led by coach Mike Doyle.
