Winter Sports Preview - Top Non-Senior Athletes Heading into 2022-2023 Season

SEATTLE - As fall turns the corner and winter sports begin, there are newly created opportunities for the young athletes at O'Dea to shine. But to know whether or not these athletes will step up this winter is hard to tell. So, here are three athletes from basketball and the swim & dive teams to watch out for this season.

Basketball - Miles Goodman, Noel Davis, Malcolm Clark

Miles Goodman: Goodman is currently a junior center that stands at 6'9" and 205 lbs. He is a three-star athlete per 247Sports, and is ranked as the third best player in Washington state. Goodman is a high-ceiling center, and is a three tool player, with his dunkability, defense, and smooth shooting. A big junior year is underway for Goodman and will be a player to watch in the 2022-2023 season.

Noel Davis: Davis, junior, is a 5'11" guard who showed major promise last season. He average six points per game in 25 games as a key role player with his "feisty" defense and well-rounded shooting ability. Last season he had the third most points on the team with 151, and the second most three-pointers made with 28. Davis will most likely see more playing time after his standout performances during last summer's scrimmages. So, keep an eye out for Davis, this guy is a stud and may be a very dominant player this winter.

Malcolm Clark: Clark, the younger brother of senior, Air Force commit, Miles Clark, had a productive second half of the season last year while still getting used to varsity basketball. He dominates on both sides of the ball with his 6'7" frame, playing the forward/center position. He showed flashes of growth in the big-man game during last summer's tournament. Clark is slightly under the radar heading into this season, but he shouldn't go unnoticed because he may be a one of the driving forces for the Irish this year.

Swim and Dive - Maks Karman, Shea Skarda, Jack Skarda

Jack Skarda: Skarda, a junior, was nothing short of fantastic last winter. Cementing himself into one of the best swimmers to attend O'Dea, placing second in the 100 yard breastroke with a time of 57.00 seconds, and third in the 200 yard individual medley at 1:55.54. Skarda most recently attended the Oregon Tualatin Hills Swim Club Fall Invitational, he placed in the top five in eight out of the ten events he participated in. On top of that, he broke eight personal bests, and placed first in the 50 yard free, and the 100 yard breaststroke. Skarda is shaping up to have an incredible winter and be the driving force of the Irish's young core.

Maks Karman: Karman, a sophomore this year, has been taking chunks out of his times throughout the off-season, setting himself up to be a top 20 swimmer on the SMAC (Seattle Metropolitan Swim Club). He's still a budding underclassmen, but he shows true progress in all of his meets especially in the 100 yard free by shaving two seconds from July to October. Karman is shaping up to have a very crucial season in his performance, and has a chance to show the work he's put in during the off-season.

Shea Skarda: Skarda, the younger brother of Jack, is currently ranked the 25th best swimmer in Washington as a sophomore. Skarda specializes in the breastroke posting times in the top seven at the Oregon Tualatin Hills Swim Club Fall invitational. Both personal bests for Skarda in the 100 and 200 yard breastroke, 1:01.97 & 2:12.49. Skarda is among the better sophomores on the Irish swim team, and through his leadership by example as an underclassmen, and help bring this team to the top of the Metro league.

*Unfortunately due to lack of info I couldn't add any wrestlers, we have some studs, but cannot provide info, I apologize. - Teige*

O'Dea's non-seniors are one of the stronger classes we've seen, and with them, the Irish's future couldn't be brighter. These young guys are going to be keystones to varsity roster spots for the next two to three years and and shaping up to be an exciting watch in those upcoming seasons.
