With Jason Brown playing on both sides of the ball, Odea takes a huge 3-6 win over Garfield.

Updated: Oct 26, 2022

SEATTLE- The Fighting Irish beat the Garfield Bulldogs at Memorial Stadium Friday night for Garfield’s homecoming by a score of 33-6 behind the strong play of junior running back Jason Brown.

,Although the whole team did excellent, Brown was a standout. Brown didn’t just score touchdowns, like he normally does, he made defensive stops also.

Brown was playing on both sides of the ball for the first time in his high school career, and he made a huge impact to seal the win against a tough Metro League opponent.

Brown did not take his time for granted while playing on defense. Brown looked like he belonged out there, finishing with 2 sacks.

Brown wasn’t the only one making stops though. The whole defense did impeccable, filling in for junior defensive back Kyan McDonald who was sitting out due to injury.

The defense in total created at least four turnovers on downs, which gave Irish the lead the whole game and taking the advantage to be up 19 to 0 by halftime.

A big play that amped up the sideline and gave the team energy was when junior linebacker Sir Keenan Hart recovered a kickoff that the Irish kicked off. This was the second recovered kickoff of the game for O'Dea.

Brown wasn’t the only one getting it done on both sides of the ball.

Junior linebacker and fullback Quinn White was also getting it done with huge stops on the defensive end with big tackles, but also scored 2 touchdowns for the Irish.

White made a big impact on the game, specifically in the second half, with his first touchdown, being right at the start of the third quarter which gave the Irish a big comfortable lead.

The Irish’s defense was so good that if the offense made a mistake, there was no doubt that the team was going to get the ball back. The excellent Irish defense held the Bulldogs to only a touchdown, and their only touchdown was scored by a former O'Dea Irish Sehje Jackson.

For the Irish, this looked like the best game they have played yet all season as far as playing as a team, which meaning everyone contributed to this win. This is a great look for O'Dea football as that was their last regular season game. They earned a bye in the first week of playoffs and will start their postseason run the first weekend of November.
