Wrestling captain Jude Santistevan is looking for a great final year with Irish wrestling.
SEATTLE – Jude Santistevan is a wrestling captain in the 126lb weight class. He puts in extra effort when it comes to wrestling.
Santistevan started his wrestling career when he was a freshman, and from there he worked hard to get the title of captain of the Fighting Irish wrestling team.
He rarely skips practice. Out of his four years of wrestling Santistevan has only missed 15 practices out of approximately 380 practices. “I try to make it to as many practices as I can because I know in those practices, I can be missing important technique that can be crucial if I miss it.”
On top of working hard, Santistevan is a leader on and off the mats. Off the mats, he asks teammates what they are doing to get better, on the mats he is helping his teammates get better.
“I would consider myself a leader because I try to help the underclassmen in practice because I have a lot of experience and while practicing with the underclassmen it can really help build team chemistry”
As a senior Santistevan is going to college next year where he will unfortunately not continue his wrestling career making this year his last year.
“I don’t think I will continue my wrestling career in college because I think I achieved my goals that I shot for in the last four years of my wrestling career.”
As this is his last year he intends on winning to the fullest extent that he can.
“I definitely feel more motivated and I’m going to cherish the time I have left on the team.”
All in all, Jude Santistevan is an exceptional wrestler with great discipline and mindset. He is a strong leader and a key asset to the Irish wrestling team this year.
