Zach Proctor and the Fighting Irish Roll the Blanchet Bears 54-10 at West Seattle Stadium
SEATTLE- The O'Dea Fighting Irish dominated the Blanchet Bears at West Seattle Stadium 54-10 as the rushing attack and defense flourished to move the Irish to 2-0 on the year.
The Irish offensive attack seemed too much for Blanchet to handle as they had their way on the ground with featured backs such as Jason Brown, Quinn White, Beckett Swanson and Christian Winn, ultimately leading to a 19-point first quarter and a 40-point half.
Senior tight end Tucker Ashcraft also made a statement play with a long ball from junior quarterback Antone Araujo where he jumped over the Blanchet defender to make the catch to get the Irish in a great position to score.
The defensive side of the ball was just as dominant. A defense led by speed, leadership and experienced coaching.
Junior defensive end Zach Proctor gave a lot of credit to the coaching staff.
"Having my position coach, Coach Mays, as an ex-NFL player automatically gives us a step over other teams. His experience and knowledge of the game allows the whole d-line and I to perform at such a high level".
The Blanchet offense was reliant on the run game in their first game. That was until the O'Dea defense showed how great of a defense they can really be.
"We knew they liked to run the ball and we knew that wasn’t going to be a piece of cake to stop either. They had success with that as well and we wanted to prove how good of a defense we can be and try and shut down any sort of run game they had. When they tried attacking us through the air our back half did their job and shut it down completely," Proctor said.
With the Irish offense attacking in all ways and the Irish defense looking as dominant as they have, this O'Dea team looks to make a deep run in the 3A state playoffs.
Proctor thinks this team has the potential to be special.
"This team has the talent to win a state championship but our team chemistry, leadership and hard work we've had over the summer and at our practices is the best we've had since I've been here, and I believe that’s what will help us achieve our goals. We take one game at a time and we're not overlooking any opponent and we know if we do what were supposed to do than we believe we have what it takes to win a state championship.
The Irish look to continue their dominant play this upcoming Friday when they play Rainier Beach in a battle of two of the best in Metro at Lumen Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks.
