The Irish's 2022 Regional Tournament
The Washington state regional championship rounds of wrestler is the last obstacle you have to pass to punch your ticket to the State championship. This is no easy task. From the Metro championship last week, there were only 9 wrestlers moving onto regionals from the Metro 3A league and 3 moving onto regionals from the Greater St. Helens league. Then from regionals there will only be 5 moving onto state. With so much talent in this regional championship, making it to State will be an incredible task to complete. The Fighting Irish are coming off of a second place finish in the Metro championship behind Ingraham. The team had 22 regional qualifiers, 5 finalist and 2 first place finishes at Metro. The Irish went to Eastside Catholic for a long day of wrestling at the regional tournament. Getting to the State championship would prove to be a tough task. As the wrestlers move onto the later rounds of wrestling before State, they encounter more and more skillful wrestlers who won't let them off easy. Out of the 22 regional qualifiers for the Irish, 8 are going to State and 2 are 1st alternates for State. Those 8 that qualified for State are Peter Pauly placing 1st, Issac Maher placing 3rd, Conner Richardson placing 3rd, Adam Kloeppel placing 5th, Jack Farmer placing 4th, John Haralson placing 5th, Mason Flaat placing 5th, and Georgios Kotsakis placing 2nd. The 2 wrestlers that are 1st alternates for state are Jude Santistevan and Kai Holec. Because of the pandemic that has been going around for almost 2 years, there was not State tournament last year. We know that everyone at that tournament will give it their all and try their best to make it to the finals.
