Inside Look On Khari Dawson and Track
Khari Dawson is a senior track and fielder, and a specialist in the sprint events. His leadership ability and competitiveness have led him to goals he has set for himself after high school.
"When I was little, I always loved watching the Olympics," Dawson said. "I had a thing with running, and I was fast. One of my favorite athletes would be Noah Lyles. He runs my favorite event, (100m sprint), and because he's an Olympian."
This early passion for track has led Dawson to successfully placing in Metro League last year as a junior. "It was definitely one of my biggest accomplishments, next to becoming a captain as a junior, and now a senior."
Becoming a team captain at O'Dea comes with many responsibilities, one of them being a brother to all, and being a selfless individual.
"I command the team during practice," Dawson says. "I try to make everyone comfortable with each other, then I help guys with doing drills correctly when they're struggling.
To be a good leader, an athlete need to present within yourself as well, especially before a competition. Dawson likes to get in the right mindset of competitiveness with music.
"Music gets me hyped, I think positive thoughts, and watch track and field videos to get myself inspired and motivated."
After his senior season, Dawson is looking on towards a life outside O'Dea that still includes track.
"I want to go to a college and be able to run track, at whichever one I attend," Dawson said. "Track has helped me decide my post-high school life, and the opportunities I'm looking for."
Dawson is poised to having a big senior season, striving to reach his last years success and expand upon it. His positivity and his leadership on this track and field squad will possibly carry them up the Metro League leaderboard and make it a season to remember for the Fighting Irish.
