The Irish Fight Through Another Week as the Track Team has Another Strong Performance
SEATTLE- The Irish had a meet at Nathan Hale against five different teams which built an atmosphere just like the Metro League Championship.
The Irish once again had a successful track meet with a lot of runners hitting new personal records. Standout sophomore Sage Salopek came in second for the 200m race. Nate Hopper in the 800m and 4x4, and the long jumpers and throwers had great performances to add on.
Although the Irish have shown their dominance in the past couple of weeks teams such as Ballard and Garfield are still fighting to become the king of the hill by having high placers on different events.
The track team has been able to see a lot of the competition they will be facing in the Metro League Championship in these past 2 weeks. The Irish have faced off against seven different teams in the past 2 weeks and so far, the Irish have been more motivated than ever.
“This team is special, and I feel like we can accomplish anything as long as we can stay focused and listen to our coaches,” says senior Nassir Vinson.
O’Dea has been able to build a strong Track and Field program led by Coach Butorac who has been part of the team for nine years and has had the opportunity to have great assistant coaches to help coach different events that has greatly impacted the entire team. Having great coaches and mentors can lead a team to a dynasty or build a culture that no other team can compare to.
“A lot of our strong points would be the throwers and high jumpers, they are always overlooked yet some of the best guys on the team,” said senior Nate Hopper.
With the Irish competing at a dominant level, they cannot let go of the gas pedal because they know other teams can take advantage very quickly. To avoid losing the momentum that the Irish have, they are practicing and improving on their skills that need work every week and preparing for their next meet.
The Irish will have their next meet at Chief Sealth High School on April 5th at 2:45 pm.
