Sean Ellison is Leaping Towards Greatness

While O'Dea is known for being good at a lot of sports, its track team is one those teams that just have a lot of talent and hard work built into it. Sean Ellison is one of those runners with a lot of both.

Sean Ellison is a senior at O'Dea high school and he is on that track team. Ellison has been doing track all four years of his high school career and has been improving drastically over those years. This year seems to be different as his improvement has exploded.

Ellison explains, "I took my training a lot more seriously this year and went to do indoor track competitions. I started in December and went to the University of Washington, Spokane, and Albuquerque indoor facilities. Training with my club team coaches and putting in extra hours to get to this point ready for state and junior Olympics".

Recently Ellison and his teammates made it to districts, he has seen a lot of talent from newcomers. He thinks that they can go further than districts and that if they work hard in the off-season that they can go a lot further.

Ellison says, "Two new talents to the track team with Tucker (Tucker Ashcraft - senior) throwing discus and winning the metro title as well as Sage (Sage Salopek) a sophomore who’s running very impressive times. I’m excited to see his improvement and he’s someone to watch for the last two years of his high school career".

Ellison is a leader on and off the track and he has been working hard all year to not only beat his opponents, but to beat himself.

He explains, "I’m just worried about beating my PR's (personal record). If I pick up and do my best I know I’ll qualify for state. Just like our coaches say, "Run your own race and don’t worry abt the people around you."'

Brendan Murphy a senior that has been apart of track team has seen a vast improvement in his skills as a runner and as a leader on the team.

Murphy says, "Sean stepped us for us big time as a leader this year after we lost a lot of key leaders from last years team and were all confident in him to win district for us again and hopefully make a statement at the state championship"

All and all Sean Ellison is prepared for whatever gets thrown at him, and he is putting in all work that he can to get better at the sport he loves.
